Plastic Thermal Mugs
The most common type of thermal mug is the plastic thermal mug. Although overall, stainless steel thermal mugs are more durable, a well made plastic mug can stand up to nearly the same amount of abuse that a stainless steel mug withstand. If you’re just taking your thermal mug with you everyday on your daily commute to an office job, a plastic mug will probably be fine. And although stainless steel thermal mugs tend to be more durable, plastic thermal mugs also have a number of benefits.
The biggest benefit of plastic thermal mugs is that they are generally cheaper than other types of mugs. Sometimes quite a bit cheaper. This is a huge plus if you tend to lose your mug, or want to have more than one mug to use (in case you leave one at work or have a habit of leaving them on top of your car at the gas station). Losing a cheap plastic thermal mug won’t really be that much of a problem – you can just pick up another one for a couple bucks.
Plastic thermal mugs get dinged up easily; especially those made of softer plastic, but rarely break. They also tend to be somewhat lighter than stainless steel mugs and quite a bit lighter than ceramic or glass mugs. This is especially useful if you carry your coffee around with you all day.
Customizable plastic thermal mugs are also very popular. The most common type has a clear plastic outer wall and a solid inner wall. The top part of the mug can be removed and decorated paper or plastic liner is slipped between the walls. Although these mugs do not keep beverages as warm as well as a vacuum sealed thermal mug, they are unique gifts.
